Waypoint Volunteer Expectations

Waypoint Church is committed to supporting the growth of volunteers who increasingly love God, love others and love those that do not know Jesus. Serving as a volunteer at Waypoint is a privilege and should be taken seriously. While we are all continually in need of God’s grace as we grow in our relationships with Christ, Scripture places a high calling on those serving in a leadership role. The following are necessary for someone being considered as a Waypoint Volunteer.

A Volunteer's Life

1. I understand I must be involved or working towards getting involved in a Waypoint Life Group and/or a Discipleship Group and am committed to finding one within the next 3 months. (Formal church Membership is also required for some volunteer roles, especially those working with students/children.)

2. I understand it is vital that I am committed to growing personally in my relationship with the Lord.

3. I understand that as a volunteer my personal life will be observed by others. (Ephesians 4:17-5:8)

* I must be committed to living in authentic, biblical community. This means confessing my sin to the Lord and sharing struggles with other believers in my Waypoint Life Group (or Discipleship Group) who are partnering with me for spiritual growth. (1 John 1:5-10; James 5:16)

* I am committed to biblical conflict resolution and am able to work in harmony with others. I must not be a person who consistently causes disputes or has consistent “personality conflicts” with other people. (Philippians 2:1-4; Ephesians 4:2-3; Matthew 18:15-20)

* I agree to walk in the fruit of the Spirit as I lead people, looking to their best interest and encouraging their growth in God. (Galatians 5:22-23)

* I agree to pursue a life of purity and resist the temptations of sexual immorality (including same-sex attraction), sex [outside of biblical marriage], pornography, drunkenness and recreational drug use. (1 Corinthians 6:18; I Timothy 3:2)

A Volunteer's Role

1. I am willing to commit to serving as a Volunteer for six months. And, if I transition out of serving, I commit to communicating well with my Waypoint Leader through that transition.

2. As a volunteer, I must be committed to excellence in whatever capacity I am serving.

3. I am willing to receive feedback about my performance from my Waypoint Leader.

4. I am willing to read and abide by the role description provided by my Waypoint Leader.

5. I understand that it is my responsibility to communicate to the Waypoint Leader with advanced warning if I am unable to volunteer with my team on a certain day/week. It is also my responsibility to find/trade with someone when I am unable to serve.

6. If I discover I am not a good fit for my team, I will initiate with my Waypoint Leader to find a better suited place to volunteer.
