What is baptism?
The Bible has a lot to say about baptism, what it is and why we do it. Put most simply, baptism is the recognition of your sin and your need for a savior in Jesus. It signifies that you are committed to Christ, and it is a first step of obedience in publicly declaring your faith in Him.
Baptism also signifies your relationship with the Church (the “body of Christ”). It’s a symbol of commitment and relationship whereby we live in community and help one another grow.
Baptism is also a form of commissioning, whereby followers of Jesus are called to make the world a better place as the salt and light of the world (Matthew 5:13-16). It is a calling to use our lives wisely and generously for the Kingdom of God.
What are the requirements for baptism?
If you have submitted your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are welcome to be baptized. We do not have any specific age limit, but all individuals must be willing and able to share their testimony from the stage.
How can I prepare?
Everybody who is baptized at Waypoint is asked to share a 1-2 minute testimony in front of the congregation. This is part of your public declaration of faith, and allows us to celebrate with you. There is a three question guide available to help you put your testimony into words.
Please submit your testimony via the Registration form as soon as possible for the pastoral team to review. We may offer you assistance in cutting it down, or tips on how to share it most effectively.
What should I wear and bring?
Please wear dark colored shorts or pants (jeans are not recommended). We will be providing a shirt you can wear if you would like. You will need to bring a towel, a plastic bag for your wet clothes, and a change of clothes.
